Makeover your wardrobe with these key items
Wouldn’t it be nice if someone went shopping for you and picked out the must-have items of the season? The ones that will revolutionize your wardrobe and instantly bring you up to date without you stepping into a store? Here I bring you my definitive list of game changers that people will bust the straps on their mary-janes to reach.
A chain link collar. Or a choker, if you’re being traditional.
They’re thick and sit close to the collarbone, to be worn with everything from a plain white shirt to a little black dress. This one by Mimco, $249, is the perfect way to transform old clothes into new.
A midi skirt.
Wait! Before you click off! It can look fabulous, I swear. I wasn’t convinced either until I saw uberstylist @stylemeromy wear hers for white shirt day this year (right). See? Beautiful. Try this Reiss cream skirt and style it up with a thin black knit and those pointy Isabel Marant pumps you’ve just bought.
Whether you want to go skinny or you prefer them baggy leather is your go-to fabric this season. Team with soft knits or slouchy sweaters for a relaxed look or keep them sharp with a shirt and blazer.
A straw bag.
If you’re still carrying your shoulder bag around on weekends, it’s time to ditch it. A cross-body bag only fits the essentials but leaves you hands-free to run/ jump/ dance and works for both day and night.
The luxe knit.
Wear it as you’ve always worn it, with a pair of jeans. Or experiment and team it with a printed pencil skirt or tucked into a wide, A-line skater skirt. It looks particularly great with leather or a metallic piece as it dresses down the whole outfit.
To be worn with jeans, leggings, skirts, dresses. Perfect with opaque stockings. These ones have a heel but flats are just as good.
Hurrah! A shoe that is kind of a sneaker (so they’re super comfortable) but without laces (which means they’re not really sneakers), and in a print (so they’re awesomely cute). Team with leggings, jeans or casual skirts.
The leather biker.
Update this classic by investing in one with a quilted sleeve for added interest. Team with slinky dresses or wear over jeans.
A split skirt.
It’s the new pencil, only it has a wrap-like effect, making it more flattering on most all body shapes. Wear it printed and team with a boxy tee or plain white shirt.
